Large-Scale Trash Hauling and Why It’s Best to Hire a Pro

Take the stress out of taking out the trash!

Trash removal is a weekly curbside service you pay for to remove your household garbage. Junk removal is a one-time service that people use to have the items hauled away that your trash company refuses to accept (usually including big, bulky, heavy items).

But what happens when you’ve accumulated so much household trash that your trash company refuses it? Surprisingly, that’s where a junk hauling company turns out to be your best resource. You’re going to have to explore other options for ridding your home of large volumes of trash. Here’s more about trash hauling and why certain jobs should be performed by experts.

Examples
Here are a few situations wherein a junk-removal company can help with large amounts of trash:

  • Moving
  • Remodeling
  • Construction projects and debris removal
  • Major cleanouts (garage, basement, attic, etc.)

Save Time
If you’re removing a large amount of trash yourself, it’s sure to be a long, time-consuming process, especially if you don’t own a truck to take everything in one trip. If you own a sedan or smaller vehicle, you’ll either have to take several trips to a landfill or rent a truck to take it yourself. This also means you’re left to do all the heavy lifting yourself.

Save Money
Avoid landfill charges, expensive dumpster and truck rentals, and/or fees for illegal dumping by calling a professional junk hauling company. JDog Junk Removal & Hauling knows how to properly (and legally) dispose of your large-scale trash by going through the appropriate channels and obtaining necessary permissions.

Trash Hauling Services
Let the team at 844-GET-JDOG help by hauling your large amounts of trash for you. We can make clutter a problem of the past in one easy trip. In addition, we are often able to salvage old items by donating, refurbishing, or recycling them instead of taking them to a landfill. So contact us today at 707-640-0672 or 530-517-8508 to schedule a pickup for your large-scale trash collection.

Trash Talk: How to Decide What Clutter to Keep

Clutter takes a number of forms. But what it really comes down to three types: necessary, sentimental, and downright unnecessary. Once you’ve separated your clutter into these groups, you can get rid of the things you don’t need or want. Here’s more about sorting old items to prep for trash removal.

Necessary Clutter
Useful household items that take up counter and floorspace plague everyone. The key to this kind of floor space is organization. An organized, clutter-free home benefits people in many ways. It causes less stress, promotes motivation, and creates a peaceful environment. Finding the right place for all your possessions can go a long way in promoting a healthy, happy space.

Sentimental Clutter
There are a number of items that qualify for this category. Take some time to save the items that take priority over others. For example, your baby blanket might be more keep-worthy than the T-shirt you were wearing when you caught that foul ball. Here’s a helpful hint for those of us who struggle to part ways with precious memories: take pictures. Letting your items live on digitally takes up space in your computer instead of in your home.

Unnecessary Clutter
This kind of clutter is the most troublesome. Those odds and ends around the house that you keep around just in case you’ll need it some day. While this can prove to be convenient in some situations, it can also result in excessive amounts of clutter. Try giving away functional items that can still be used and tossing the rest.

Trash Removal
The professional junk haulers at JDog Junk Removal & Hauling can help with the old items you do deem unwanted. Appliance Removal: We Haul Old Appliances So You Don’t Have To

At some point, all appliances need to be replaced. However, most trash companies will not pick them up, so hauling them to the curb is not an option – plus they’re too heavy to lift anyway. Appliances contain chemicals that are harmful to the environment. These chemicals deplete the ozone when they are in a landfill. At JDog Junk Removal & Hauling, we remove old appliances and safely dispose of them. If they are in good working order, we will find someone in the community who can use them

Appliance disposal: Here’s what to expect

  • We arrive on time for the scheduled appointment.
  • Show our team members the appliance you need them to collect.
  • It’s as good as gone – and it will not impact the environment.

Recycling and Donating Old Appliances

  • At recycling facilities, individual pieces of appliances are taken apart and separated from the hazardous materials and non-recyclable parts. Metal, plastic, and glass are valuable materials found in most appliances.
  • Appliances contain chemicals and toxic substances that leak out into landfills, contaminating the soil, air quality, and groundwater.
  • Appliances that are still in working order can be donated to people in need.

More Questions About Appliance Disposal? Find out more about us and the other junk we remove. Call us at 707-640-0672 or 530-517-8508 today.

Yard waste: Recycling And Preparing For Pickups

How to get rid of your yard waste without clogging landfills

Composting
Most municipalities refuse to pick up yard waste. Fortunately, any junk hauler is happy to take anything off your hands, whether big or small. There are a few things you can do to make the process go a little faster, though. Here’s how to prepare your yard waste to be hauled away.

Branches And Tree Limbs
Gather tree-related waste first. Tie together branches, tree limbs, and long sticks with twine.

Clippings
Use plastic bags to collect grass clippings, small twigs, and excess thatch around your yard.

Leaves
Rake leaves into piles and bag them into leaf or yard-waste bags. These bags are available at any garden center or hardware store.

Compost
There are a few items you’ll find in the yard that can (and should) be composted. Local junk hauling companies have the necessary connections to prevent your lawn debris from ending up in a landfill. Here’s a list that details a few of the most common types of compostable yard waste:

  • Fallen leaves
  • Grass clippings
  • Brush
  • Prunings
  • Twigs
  • Branches

What to Leave Behind
Not everything needs to be hauled away. Backyard composting is an easy way to turn much of the waste from your yard and kitchen into a rich organic material that you can use to improve your soil. Leave grass clippings on your lawn. This practice adds valuable nutrients to your lawn and helps to reduce the need for fertilizer.

Leave Your Yard Waste to Us
Finally, when you’re finished gathering and wrapping everything, put it in one pile outside your home for easy pickup. Hauling lawn debris and other organic material is difficult. Instead of dropping off load after load of yard waste, try another option. Let the team at JDog Junk Removal & Hauling do the hard work for you. Contact us today at 707-640-0672 or 530-517-8508 to schedule a yard waste pickup.

Minimizing the waste In Your Life By Removing The Trash

Tips for creating a clutter-free space

Trash-removal
If you’re living in a cluttered environment, rest assured that there’s an escape. Here’s how investing in professional trash removal can help you reach your goal.

Go Room by Room
Like any project, you want to break the work into chunks to prevent yourself from becoming overwhelmed. Take one room at a time, relishing your progress as you go. As you clean, create piles: a giveaway pile, a keep-and-store pile, and a junk pile. The junk pile should consist of items you no longer use, need, or want to be collected by a junk removal company when you’re finished de-cluttering.

Keep Only the Essentials
As you go room to room, it’s a challenge to decide what to keep and what to toss. As with the room-by-room idea, take each item one at a time. Keep items you use on a regular basis, store the items you use once in a while, and toss things you can live without or haven’t used in an extended period of time. Once you’ve rid the room of non-essential items and stored the other items, you can begin to re-fill it with caution.

Keep Storage Out of Plain View
Storing items in shelves, behind glass, and in other visible areas can give the illusion of clutter. Try to keep storage in closets, cabinets, drawers, and other out-of-sight places to create a sense of calm.

Clear Out Storage Areas
If you are clearing flat surfaces and the floor, and storing stuff in cabinets and drawers, you’ll probably want to declutter your storage areas too. You can do this in a later stage if you want.

Create a Dedicated Place for Every Item
Having a place for everything saves you from the chaos of living in clutter. As you do a cleanup, choose a convenient place for each item you’re holding onto and keep it there.

Purge Unwanted Items Via Trash Removal
Call us today at 707-640-0672 or 530-517-8508 when you’re ready to start a large-scale cleanout of the clutter in your home or business. The professionals at JDog Junk Removal & Hauling are here to help you with trash removal so you can make the most of your space.

The Benefits Of Replacing Old Carpet and Rugs

Replacing old carpet can benefit you in more ways than you think!

Carpet removal
Even the carpets under the best care don’t last forever. No matter the reason, the time is bound to come when your carpet needs to be replaced or thrown out. If you’re still deciding whether to remove your carpet, read on to learn about some of the benefits of carpet removal.

Aesthetic Appeal
The most obvious benefit of replacing an old rug? Whether your rug has seen better days or you’re just in the mood for a change, a new carpet immediately (and often drastically) changes the look of a room. It’ll improve the look of your space.

Reduce Allergens in the Air
Over time, older carpets and the padding beneath them absorb dust and other allergen-containing particles that float in the air. These can aggravate allergies and asthma symptoms. Carpets can be washed, of course, but it’s pretty impossible to clean the pad, especially when you’re dealing with wall-to-wall carpeting. Replacing both help cut down on allergens in the air.

Mold and Mildew
The absorbent nature of carpet padding often poses a problem, especially in humid climates. This contributes to odors and microscopic allergens. Once your carpets are replaced, ensure that humidity levels are kept under control.

Odors
Fact: old carpets smell. No matter how much you spray and deep-clean, eventually every carpet reaches the point of no return. Once you replace your old, smelly carpet, you’ll have a better-smelling room to enjoy.

Safety
Warping, tearing, and matting are all signs of wear and tear. Unfortunately, these flaws are not just unattractive; they also have the potential to be downright dangerous. Warps, tears, mats, and other irregularities can cause people to trip, which often results in injury. Replacing carpet gives people a level, safe place to walk.

Recycling Appliances Can Benefit The Planet

When you upgrade your old appliances, it is often tempting to take them to the curb for trash pickup. Instead of letting your old items pile up in a landfill, there are other options for disposal. Many typical large appliances can be recycled or donated. Here are the basics of donating or recycling appliances.

Donating Appliances
Charities prefer to receive items that are in working condition. Ideally, you should donate newer appliances which are still functioning but are being replaced by newer models. Older refrigerators and freezers are not ideal because they are less energy efficient. Always check with the charity you intend to donate to before hauling the appliance over.

Recycling Appliances
Many people take their unwanted appliances to the curb for the garbage collectors. Then they’re tossed into landfills. Once in landfills, they rust and expel harmful chemical waste into the soil and groundwater. Because appliances are not biodegradable, they sit and take up space. Large appliances are all recyclable, so research your local laws regarding recycling appliances.

Appliances that no longer work can be used for scrap metal. To do this, harmful elements are removed from the appliance and the body or case is re-used. As a result,  construction companies can use these appliances and re-purpose them for various uses. Here are some examples of major appliances that should be recycled or used for scrap metal:

  • washing machines and dryers
  • hot water heaters
  • microwave ovens
  • dehumidifiers and humidifiers
  • stoves/ovens
  • refrigerators and freezers
  • air conditioners
  • furnaces
  • toaster ovens

We Want to Help with the Heavy Lifting
When you’re recycling, donating, or disposing of your old appliance, JDog Junk Removal & Hauling is available to help take it away. Our team is here to haul away items big and small at your convenience. Give us a call today at 707-640-0672 or 530-517-8508 to make an appointment.

Garage Cleanout Time!

For many families, the garage is used for storage, and rarely for cars. This can result in piles of forgotten items that create clutter, disorganization, and chaos when it’s time to find something important or sentimental. Here are a few of the benefits you’ll enjoy when you do a garage cleanout.

Uncover Forgotten Gems
Spend a few hours each weekend sorting through old boxes of “junk.” There are bound to be forgotten items that you want to display or take out of storage and put on display in your home. You might even stumble upon items that you’ve forgotten about, yet still hold monetary value.

Protect Valuables
Proper storage is vital when it comes to investment pieces like lawn mowers, snow blowers, expensive cars, and other high-cost items. Getting your expensive items undercover and in from the outdoors is a responsible move when it comes to protecting your valuables. Priceless items like childhood art projects, family photo albums, and other sentimental items should be rescued from the garage, too. This way they can be properly stored and saved for prosperity.

Repurpose the Space
If you’ve ever wanted a workspace, art studio, or workout area in your home, a cleaned-out garage is your answer. It’s easy to turn a garage into any of these spaces at a small cost. For a little extra money, a garage can be converted into an additional room in your house. Many families have turned their garages into an in-law suite, family room, or ground-floor master bedroom.

Prevent Pests
Finally, the practical side of things: less clutter means fewer pests. Rodents, insects, and other critters flock to garages because they are indoor areas that tend to be cluttered. As a result, they provide ample hiding spaces for pests to breed and nest. Removing your piles of unwanted things can prevent these pests from wandering into your home.

Got E-Waste? We Can Help!

Avoid tossing old electronics in landfills by recycling

Electronic products leak chemicals that contaminate the soil, pollute the air, and contaminate water when thrown into a landfill. And, due to the decreased lifecycle of today’s technology, unwanted electronics are piling up more than ever before. Therefore, it’s important to dispose of these old items correctly. Here’s what you need to know about proper e-waste disposal.

Reuse
First, try to avoid disposing of e-waste in the first place. While recycling is helpful, reusing is less wasteful. Reduce e-waste pollution by donating your old electronics. There is bound to be another person or charitable organization that can use them.

Find a Certified Recycler
E-stewards are the most trustworthy resource for responsibly recycling electronics. Due to their rigorous standards, you can trust a certified e-Steward to dispose of your electronics without causing unnecessary pollution. Locate a local e-steward here.

Local E-Recycling Events
Some local governments and schools offer additional responsible recycling options. Many municipalities hold e-cycling events for citizens to drop off unwanted electronics. Since these events are usually only twice a year, check your local municipality’s website for details.

Retailers
While this isn’t a hard and fast rule, there are a number of electronics stores that offer in-store recycling services. Call or check their website first to confirm.

What Can Be Recycled
Because not every electronic item can be recycled, try to find out what the company you’ve chosen will accept. Here are a few of the most commonly recycled e-waste items:

  • Cell phones
  • TVs
  • DVD players
  • Power Cords
  • Microwave ovens
  • GPS devices
  • Speakers and stereo equipment
  • Paper shredders
  • Printers
  • Batteries (at certain sites)
  • Memory cards
  • Cameras
  • Desktop computers
  • Laptops
  • Tablets

Mattress Recycling Issues

The components of an old mattress begin to break down when tossed into a landfill. These materials depend on the type of mattresses it is, but most common mattresses leak chemicals into the air and water supply, posing a serious threat to the environment. Therefore, it’s important that everyone recycles their old mattresses instead of disposing of them like trash. Here are a few things you need to know about mattress recycling.

Mattress Recycling

  • Mattresses contain both organic and inorganic materials. Some of the organic materials (wood and cotton fabrics) decompose naturally. Other synthetic and metal components take up valuable space in landfills and can take more than 100 years to decompose.
  • Old mattresses contain components that, when they decompose, interact and leak dangerous chemicals into the soil and air. This process pollutes groundwater supplies and produces gases like methane and carbon dioxide. These gases are attributed to severe environmental issues like climate change, the greenhouse effect, and global warming.
  • California, Connecticut, and Rhode Island are the first states to make it mandatory to recycle old mattresses.
  • Mattresses clog and catch in incinerators and compressors because of their large sizes and bulky shapes.
  • The average mattress lasts up to 10 years of regular use.
  • 80% to 100% of the average mattress can disassembled and broken down into raw materials. These materials are then recycled into new products. Foams, certain fabrics, and plastics are turned into cushions or padding. Fabrics are turned into industrial oil filters and recycled textiles. Metal springs and frames are melted into scrap metal to create a number of new products. Wood can be used as fuel or tossed into a wood chipper and turned into mulch.

Montel Williams Joins Military Makeover to Give Back to Fellow Veterans

Emmy-winning talk show host and prominent veteran advocate Montel Williams have joined the TV show Military Makeover, which airs on Lifetime. While most Americans of a certain age remember the Emmy Award-winning Montel Williams Show, which aired nationally for 17 years, they might not realize that Montel was a decorated military officer who served more than two decades. A veteran of both the Marine Corps and the Navy, Montel is thrilled to join co-host Art Edmonds, interior designer Jennifer Bertrand, and construction manager Ryan Stanley as they transform the homes—and often the lives—of deserving military families. “In the nearly three decades since I retired from the Navy, I’ve never really taken the uniform off because standing up for those who are serving now and those who have served has been the greatest honor of my professional career,” Williams said. Military Makeover is a very special home improvement series that aims to respect those who have served our country, rebuild the homes and lives of these brave service men and women, and repay veterans for the service and sacrifices they’ve made for us. Montel began his professional career in the United States Marine Corps, becoming the first black Marine selected to the Naval Academy Prep School to then go on to graduate from the United States Naval Academy. Williams earned a degree in general engineering and a minor in international security affairs; when his 22-year military career concluded, he began a stint as a public speaker, which led to his role as a long-running talk show host. Montel is relishing the opportunity to give back to his fellow veterans through this new role allowing him to not only lead as a host but also to creatively co-produce the show in its new season.
“Being able to participate in Military Makeover gives me the opportunity to not just talk about things, but to actually do things and give something back,” Williams said. “I get an opportunity to get a sense of how our veterans really feel deep down inside,” Montel said.
